Horse 3.3 retired its old built-in ad blocker. Current releases use uBlock Origin Lite, a maintained blocker with its own controls and one of the extensions tested for Horse.
If you remember an Enable Ad Blocker item in Horse’s View menu, you are remembering the pre-3.3 version. That switch has gone because the extension now owns the job.
Install or manage the blocker
- Update Horse to the current Stable release.
- Open the Extensions screen.
- Install uBlock Origin Lite if it is not already installed.
- Use its extension controls to change filtering or disable it for a site.
Riders who upgraded with the old built-in blocker enabled were migrated to uBlock Origin Lite automatically. If you had disabled the old blocker, Horse respects that choice and does not silently turn filtering back on.
When a site needs an exception
Sometimes you want to support a publication with ads. Sometimes a site has built its navigation from twigs and optimism and stops working when a request is blocked. Use uBlock Origin Lite’s own controls to pause filtering for that site, then reload the page.
Because the blocker is an extension, its filtering options and site exceptions live with the extension rather than in Horse’s general settings. This also means the people maintaining the filter engine can improve it directly instead of Horse carrying a smaller imitation forever. Tiny specialist bouncer beats homemade cardboard bouncer.
