Use multiple windows

View different pages side by side, with all your Trails available in every window. Each window keeps its own place.

220 words by Pascal Pixel & Eleanor McKeown

Every Horse window has access to all your Trails®. Open a reference page in one while you write in another, or put a window on each monitor. You don’t need to move your pages into separate collections first.

Open another window

With Horse open, press ⌘+N: Cmd+N on Mac, or Ctrl+N on Windows and Linux. Select a page in the new window’s sidebar. The original window stays on the page you were viewing.

If you’re using an older version without multiple windows, download the latest Horse.

What the windows share

The pages and folders are the same, not copies. Create or move something in one window and the change appears in the others. Renaming works the same way.

Deleting a page or folder removes it from every window. Closing a window, however, doesn’t delete the Trails® it was showing.

What stays independent

Each window has its own selected page and navigation. You can expand or collapse Trails® in one sidebar without changing what’s expanded in the other. Scroll through the same list to find different tasks, then leave each window where you need it.

This sharing is between windows on the same computer. It isn’t automatic sync between computers; see moving Trails between devices for that.
