Horse 3.3 retired its old built-in dark-reader feature. Current releases use the Dark Reader extension, including its own per-site controls.
If you are looking for the old Enable Dark Reader item in Horse’s View menu, it is no longer there. Dark Reader now manages the transformation itself, which gives you much finer control than Horse’s former on-or-off switch.
Install or manage Dark Reader
- Update Horse to the current Stable release.
- Open the Extensions screen.
- Install Dark Reader if it is not already installed.
- Use Dark Reader’s controls to enable it, change its mode, or exclude a site.
If you upgraded from Horse 3.2 with the old dark mode enabled or set to automatic, Horse migrates that choice by installing Dark Reader. Other users can install it manually.
Tune a difficult site
Dark Reader can be enabled globally and adjusted or disabled for individual sites. That matters because websites are an unruly parade of colour systems. One becomes a calm charcoal reading room. Another turns a diagram into a square of midnight soup.
Open the extension’s controls while you are on the troublesome site, then change its mode or exclude that site. The setting belongs to Dark Reader, so use the extension panel rather than Horse’s general appearance settings.
